We're often asked what is the best device to use the InventoryBase app on, so this article outlines some of ours and our customers experiences with different devices.

This article will be updated every few months, so check back in the future if you're thinking of purchasing new hardware.

Apple iOS

Typically, we would always recommend the latest Apple devices. Apple iOS is as straightforward to use as it is powerful, and we prefer the performance of the app using Apple devices based on our experience.

The following models are recommended in order from oldest to newest for both Smartphone and Tablet categories.

iPhone 6s (approaching end-of-life)
iPhone 6s Plus (approaching end-of-life)
iPhone 7
iPhone 7 Plus*
iPhone 8
iPhone 8 Plus*
iPhone X*

iPad Pro* (All versions)
iPad* (9.7") 2018

* Highly recommended

In terms of value for money, the latest iPad with support for Apple Pencil retails for just £320 inc. VAT which is cheaper than all other Apple devices listed.

Google Android

There is a considerably larger variety of Android devices on the market that would be suitable enough for basic use of the App (shorter, less detailed reports with less than 100 photos). For more demanding use of the app (large detailed reports with hundreds or even thousands of photos, audio and/or video) we recommend newer, more expensive devices.

Unlike Apple, Android devices rely more on the device specs to offer good performance. We recommend devices with at least 2GB of ram and 2ghz processor. You would expect to be paying at least £250 for these devices new.

The following models are recommended in order from oldest to newest for both Smartphone and Tablet categories.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus*
Samsung Galaxy S9
Huawei P20 Pro
LG G7 ThinQ
Samsung Galaxy Note 8*
Google Pixel 2 XL*
OnePlus 6*
Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus*
Google Pixel 2*

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3*
Asus ZenPad 3S 10
Huawei MediaPad M5 8.4*
Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Pro
Huawei MediaPad M3 8
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2

Some of our customers continue to have satisfactory app performance on the following tablets, which will be cheaper to purchase new or second hand, however please be aware that these are approaching end-of-life (3-5 years old).

Samsung Galaxy Tab Active
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
Samsung Galaxy S7

As there are so many devices using Android we can't comment on every one, however any device with at least 2GB ram and an 8MP camera should provide reasonable performance and quality.
